Ribosome profiling (Ribo-seq) is a tool to estimate the ‘translational fitness’ of a given messenger RNA (mRNA) in plants in response to environmental or developmental cues with high-resolution. This technique is based on the isolation of mRNA fragments protected by ribosomes followed by massively parallel sequencing of the footprints and allows the measurement of ribosome density along mRNA transcripts.
