When too much ain’t enough: The biology of iron-overaccumulating genotypes

On account of its competence to accept and donate electrons, iron is an essential element across all forms of life, including plants. Maintaining Fe homeostasis requires precise orchestration of its uptake, trafficking and translocation in order to meet the demand of Fe sinks such as plastids. Plants harboring defects in the systemic Fe transporter OLIGOPEPTIDE TRANSPORTER 3 display constitutive iron deficiency responses and accumulate toxic levels of iron in their leaves. Similarly, ectopic expression of IRONMAN genes, encoding a family of phloem-localized signaling peptides, triggers the uptake and accumulation of iron by compromising the iron sensor BRUTUS

What strengthens Protein-Protein Interactions: Analysis and Applications of Residue Correlation Networks

Identifying residues critical to protein-protein binding and efficient design of stable and specific protein binders are challenging tasks. Extending beyond the direct contacts in a protein-protein binding interface, our study employs computational modeling to reveal the essential network of residue interactions and dihedral angle correlations critical in protein-protein recognition.

Structural insights into the regulation, ligand recognition, and oligomerization of bacterial STING

The cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)/stimulator of interferon gene (STING) signaling pathway plays a critical protective role against viral infections. Metazoan STING undergoes multilayers of regulation to ensure specific signal transduction. However, the mechanisms underlying the regulation of bacterial STING remain unclear.
