From Laboratory to Clinic: Novel Approaches to Unmet Needs

From the Lab to the Clinic is a translational research meeting, run annually since 1984 bringing together basic scientists, clinicians and industry researchers to explore how the latest discoveries in immunology and molecular medicine can be applied to improve clinical medicine.

Exploring the Multifunctional Roles of Odontoglossum Ringspot Virus P126 in Facilitating Cymbidium Mosaic Virus Cell-to-Cell Movement during Mixed Infection

Synergistic interactions among viruses, hosts and/or transmission vectors during mixed infection can alter viral titers, symptom severity or host range. Viral suppressors of RNA silencing (VSRs) are considered one of such factors contributing to synergistic responses......

A critical molecule for regulating inflammatory cell death through intracellular binding to microbial glycans

Lipopolysaccharides (LPSs) are pathogen-associated molecular patterns released from bacteria that can elicit a host defense program through binding to the cell-surface receptor. Upon binding to the cell-surface receptor, LPSs initiate signal transduction events, thereby contributing to various inflammatory responses induced by bacterial infection......

A key component in the regulation of coral spawning has been discovered by an international team of scientists led by Biodiversity Research Center, Academia Sinica in Taiwan

The annual mass coral spawning even in Taiwan is a beautiful phenomenon that occurs between the months of April and June each year. Millions upon millions of egg and sperm bundles are sent from mother colonies into the ocean with the hope that a fraction will survive, settle and extend the range of coral reefs. It is thought that spawning is determined by corals sensing environmental change which is regulated by the lunar cycle (moonlight) however the exact mechanism has been a sticking point for marine biologists......

COUP-TFI specifies the medial entorhinal cortex identity and induces differential cell adhesion to determine the integrity of its boundary with neocortex

Here, we show that determination of the boundary between neocortex and medial entorhinal cortex (MEC), two abutting cortical regions generated from the same progenitor lineage, relies on COUP-TFI (chicken ovalbumin upstream promoter–transcription factor I), a patterning transcription factor with graded expression in cortical progenitors......
