Effects of a plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium on tomato production and soil microbiota in organic farming

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are microorganisms that promote plant health and play a critical role in sustainable agriculture. As a PGPR, Rhodopseudomonas palustris strain PS3, when applied as a microbial inoculant, exhibited beneficial effects on a variety of crops. In this new study, the research team investigated the effects of PS3 on tomato growth, soil properties, and soil microbiota composition in an organic field......

A novel targeted therapy against acute myeloid leukemia

A new study from Academia Sinica revealed a novel potential target, SCUBE1, for immunotherapy in MLL-rearranged (MLL-r) leukemia. This study was published in “Haematologica” in August, 2022......

TRAX is an upstream regulator of the miRNA-mRNA axis and provides neuroprotection for Huntington’s disease

A new study from Academia Sinica revealed a novel neuroprotective mechanism against Huntington’s disease via the TRAX-mediated alteration of a subset of miRNA. This study was published in “Movement Disorders” in August, 2022......

Stomatal morphology and water use efficiency

Stomata are a pivotal adaptation of land plants and control gas exchange. While most plants present solitary stomata, some plant species experiencing chronic water deficiency display clustered stomata on their epidermis; for instance, limestone-grown begonias. In order to understand whether clustered stomata increase the survival advantage of terrestrial plants in arid environments, assistant research fellow Chin-Min Ho from IPMB and associate research fellow Kuo-Fang Chung from the biodiversity research center used two Asian begonias, Begonia formosana (single stomata) and B. hernandioides (clustered stomata), to explore the water use capacity of plants and the developmental mechanism of clustered stomata......
