Iron acquisition from calcareous soils: mission impossible?

The ability to thrive in calcareous soils, referred to as calcicole behaviour, is the readout of an amalgam of traits of which efficient foraging of iron from recalcitrant pools is a decisive factor. This multi-faceted, reciprocal plant-microbiome interplay affects iron mobilisation directly, but also collaterally by impacting growth, fitness, and health of the host......

Buy One, Get Two: Tandem Mass Tag-Based (Phospho)proteomics in Plants

Mass spectrometry-based proteomics provide a powerful tool for plant research, allowing global detection of steady-state levels of proteins under a given experimental setup. Together with Chin-Wen Chen and Chuan-Chih Hsu from the proteomics core facility at IPMB, Wolfgang Schmidt’s group optimized a protocol for proteomic profiling using tandem mass tag (TMT) labeling followed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to quantitate phosphopeptides and non-phosphopeptides from the same samples......

A Proteomic View on the Chromatin Landscape

Chromatin enrichment for proteomics (ChEP) is a technique that allows for unbiased proteomic profiling of the chromatin landscape using mass spectrometry. While the method has been successfully employed to survey chromatin-associated proteins in various organisms and cell types, ChEP has not been applied to plant materials - yet......
