An interbacterial cysteine protease toxin inhibits cell growth by targeting type II DNA topoisomerases GyrB and ParE

Bacteria deploy a diverse arsenal of toxic effectors to antagonize competitors, profoundly influencing the composition of microbial communities. Our findings unveil a unique mode of interbacterial intoxication and provide insights into how bacteria protect themselves from self-poisoning by protease toxins.

Polymerised Superparamagnetic Antigen Presenting Cell Lymphocyte Capture for Enriching Tumour Reactive T-Cells and Neoantigen Identification

The laboratory of Dr. Che-Ming Jack Hu at Academia Sinica leveraged a novel cellular polymerization technology to develop polymerised superparamagnetic APCs for label-free isolation of tumour-reactive T cells.

Lamellar Schwann cells in the Pacinian corpuscle potentiate vibration perception

Pacinian corpuscles are among the most sensitive mechanoreceptors found in vertebrates, and they are tuned to vibrations in the highest perceptible frequency range (100 to 2000 Hz).

Nocardia genomes are a large reservoir of diverse gene content, biosynthetic gene clusters, and species-specific genes

Understanding the genomic diversity and biosynthetic potential of microorganisms is instrumental for addressing issues in microbial evolution, natural product discovery, and host-microbe interactions. This study exemplifies how genome mining can illuminate the ecological and clinical significance of microbial diversity.

Impacts of D-aspartate on the aggregation kinetics and structural polymorphism of amyloid β peptide 1-42

Isomerization of L-aspartate (L-Asp) into D-aspartate (D-Asp) occurs naturally in proteins at a rate that is much faster than that of other amino acid types. These findings provide crucial insights into how the conversion from L- to D-Asp influences the aggregation propensity and amyloid polymorphism of Aβ42.

High-efficiency leucoplast transit peptides for manipulating plastid protein production

Using an in vitro leucoplast import system, we have identified six high-efficiency transit peptides. Compared to a widely used chloroplast transit peptide, these peptides delivered comparable amounts of GFP into chloroplasts, but 2-7 times more GFP into root and petal leucoplasts, attesting to the advantage of screening using leucoplasts.
