Comparative analysis of Deinagkistrodon acutus venom from Taiwan and China utilizing chromatographic, electrophoretic, and bioinformatic approaches, along with ELISA employing a monospecific antivenom

Deinagkistrodon acutus is a medically important pitviper inhabiting mainly South China and Taiwan. The hemorrhagic effects of its envenoming are compatible to its venom, which is abundant in metalloproteases (svMPs) and C-type lectin-like proteins.

Bacterial pseudaminic acid binding to Siglec-10 induces a macrophage interleukin-10 response and suppresses phagocytosis

Pseudaminic acid (Pse) on pathogenic bacteria exopolysaccharide engages with the sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-type lectin (Siglec)-10 receptor on macrophages via the critical 7-N-acetyl group.

Immunometabolic features of natural killer cells are associated with infection outcomes in critical illness

Immunosuppression increases the risk of nosocomial infection in patients with chronic critical illness. This exploratory study aimed to determine the immunometabolic signature associated with nosocomial infection during chronic critical illness.

In vivo CRISPR screening directly targeting testicular cells

CRISPR-Cas9 short guide RNA (sgRNA) library screening is a powerful approach to understand the molecular mechanisms of biological phenomena.

Engineering stable and non-immunogenic immunoenzymes for cancer therapy via in situ generated prodrugs

Engineering human enzymes for therapeutic applications is attractive but introducing new amino acids may adversely affect enzyme stability and immunogenicity.

A Facile NMR Method for Pre-MRI Evaluation of Trigger-Responsive T1 Contrast Enhancement

There is a growing interest in developing paramagnetic nanoparticles as responsive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents, which feature switchable T1 image contrast of water protons upon biochemical cues for better discerning diseases.

Klebsiella pneumoniae K2 capsular polysaccharide degradation by a bacteriophage depolymerase does not require trimer formation

K2-capsular Klebsiella pneumoniae is a hypervirulent pathogen that causes fatal infections. Here, we describe a phage tailspike protein, named K2-2, that specifically depolymerizes the K2 capsular polysaccharide (CPS) of K. pneumoniae into tetrasaccharide repeating units.
